The Westminster men’s soccer team entered the first regular season edition of the 2010 NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 poll at No. 17. Westminster received 251 points in the poll that was released by the NAIA on Tuesday. The Griffins went to No. 17 after not receiving any votes in the preseason poll that was released on August 16.

The Westminster women’s Volleyball team entered the first edition of the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll at No. 20 when it was released by the NAIA on Tuesday. Westminster received 242 points to enter the poll after not being ranked in the preseason poll that was released on August 16.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced today that its NAIA Eligibility Center is accepting registrations from students interested in playing college sports. PlayNAIA.org is the official clearinghouse for NAIA eligibility. Every student seeking to compete in NAIA sports for the first-time in 2011-12 or after must be registered with the NAIA Eligibility Center.

For the second consecutive game the Westminster women’s soccer team was defeated in overtime. This time Saint Thomas (Fla.) scored with four second remaining in the second overtime to stun the Griffins. Westminster is now 1-4-1 on the season and 0-3-1 away from Dumke Field.

The Westminster women’s volleyball team bounced back and recorded two wins at the Asics/Crowne Plaza Labor Day Tournament on Saturday. Westminster began the day with a 3-0 sweep of sixth-ranked Biola. They came back in the evening to claim a 3-2 win over Westmont to finish the tournament with a 2-2 record.

For the second consecutive day Dennis Sellis was the hero for the Westminster men’s soccer team. On Saturday, Sellis scored two second half goals to lead Westminster to a 2-1 win over Olivet Nazarene on Dumke Field. The Griffins have now won two straight and are 3-1 on the season.

The Westminster women’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision against Northwood (Fla.) on Saturday afternoon. Northwood scored in the first minute of overtime to hand the Griffins a second consecutive defeat.

It took into the 100th minute before Dennis Sellis would find the back of the net and give the Westminster men’s soccer team a 1-0 victory over Northwestern (Iowa) on Dumke Field. The two teams played through a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation and nine minutes of overtime before the game winner.

The Westminster women’s volleyball team went 0-2 during the first day of the Asics/Crowne Plaza Labor Bay Tournament hosted by Concordia (Calif.). Westminster began the day with a 3-0 loss to top-ranked Fresno Pacific. The Griffins then fell 3-0 against No. 2 Concordia.

Recorded 10 blocks to help the Griffins complete a five-set win over Westmont at the Asics/Crowne Plaza Labor Day Tournament.  The Griffins went 2-2 at the tournament wins wins over Westmont and No. 6 Biola.

Scored three goals and two game winners for the Griffins as they went 2-0 last week with wins over Northwestern (IA) and Olivet Nazarene.
