The Westminster men’s alpine ski team finished second overall in the Giant Slalom event at the USCSA National Championships on Thursday afternoon. Westminster was less that seven-tenths of a second behind Sierra Nevada College for the title.

The Westminster women’s alpine ski team claimed a second consecutive national championship in the Giant Slalom on Wednesday afternoon at the USCSA National Championships. Westminster earned the team title by placing three individuals in the top eight of the final standings.

The Westminster ski and snowboard teams are headed to Sunday River, Maine for the 2010 USCSA National Championships this week. The Westminster women’s teams are each looking to defend the national championships they won in 2009. The men’s teams are looking to improve on second place finishes from last year.

The Westminster men’s and women’s ski teams each claimed the USCSA Western Regional Championship over the weekend at Snowbasin Resort. By virtue of winning the title, the teams earned a berth in the USCSA National Championships in Sunday River, Maine from March 2-6.

Westminster Ready for USCSA West Regionals

The Westminster men’s and women’s alpine ski teams will compete at the USCSA Western Regional Championships this weekend at Snowbasin Resort in Huntsville, Utah. Friday, February 19 is the men’s and women’s slalom event. The men’s giant slalom is on Saturday, February 20 with the women’s giant slalom on Sunday, February 21.

Westminster Sweeps at Weber State Invitational

The Westminster men’s and women’s alpine ski teams each picked up sweeps at the Weber State Invitational at the Wildcat Bowl at Snowbasin over the weekend. The race featured a slalom event on Friday, January 29 and a giant slalom race on Saturday, January 30.

Ski and Snowboard Academic All-Americans

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster ski and snowboard teams had 21 student-athletes recognized with Academic All-American honors by the U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association. The 21 athletes named are more than any other school in the association. Eight of the 21 were named to the first team, matching Sierra Nevada as the most in that department.

Men's Snowboard USCSA National Recap

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men’s snowboard team recently competed at the United States Collegiate Skiing and Snowboarding National Championships, qualifying in the first year of the program. The Griffins placed third as a team in the final combined standing with 18 points. Abram Greenspan was the leading individual in the overall standings with a 13th place finish. Greenspan received 78 points for his performance over the four events.
