Amanda Theobald Places Second, Earns Trip to National Championships

SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster women's cross country runner Amanda Theobald placed second at the 2009 Frontier Conference Championship meet on Friday afternoon. Theobald, a senior from Mapleton, Utah, completed the 5K course in 20:08. She was 57 second behind the race winner, Amber Watson of Rocky Mountain College.

By virtue of her second place finish, she earned an invite to the 2009 Women's Cross Country National Championships in Vancouver, Washington. The meet is on Saturday, November 21 and takes place at the Fort Vancouver Historical Site. The race is a 5K and begins at 11:45 a.m.

This is the second consecutive year that Theobald has qualified for the event, and she is the only Griffin to ever qualify. She finished the 2008 meet with a time of 19:42, which placed her in 198th out of 327 competitors. Thirty-two teams, including 25 conference/independent/unaffiliated champions, six at-large bids and 117 individual qualifiers, will run in the women's 5K.
