SALT LAKE CITY – The Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) announced the 2009 All-American teams on Wednesday. The Westminster men's lacrosse team had three players named as an All-American for their performance during the season.
Zach Kessler and Ben Wright were each named to the first team while
Dallas McLellan made the second team.
Kessler, a 5-10 senior from Salt Lake City, made the first team at defense. Kessler appeared in every game during the 2009 season and recorded 41 ground balls. He was the leader of the Griffins defense that allowed just 10.1 goals per game. He was named a Second Team All-American last season.
Wright, a 5-1 junior from Salt Lake City, was the DM on the first team. He finished the season with one goal and two assists. Wright appeared in 15 games for the Griffins in 2009.
McLellan, a 5-10 sophomore from Sandy, Utah, made the second team at goalie. He finished the year with a 64.7 save percentage and a 7.27 goal against average. McLellan was a First Team All-American in 2008.
Westminster finished the 2009 season with a 12-8 overall record and advanced to the MCLA quarterfinals for the third time in as many season. They also won their RMLC division for the third consecutive year.
