SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster men's basketball coach Tommy Connor has announced that Alex Drecksel has signed a NAIA letter of intent to join the Griffins in 2009. Drecksel becomes the third player to sign with the Griffins for next season.
Drecksel, a 6-4 wing from Pocatello, Idaho, played for the IMG Basketball Academy as a senior. He averaged 14.4 points and 5.7 rebounds while helping IMG to first-place finishes at the NCSAA National Championships and the Hoop Group Jam Fest. As a junior, he was named Conference Player of the Year while playing for Pocatello High School. He was also First Team All-State in Idaho Class 4A that season.
“Alex is a great recruit for our program,” said Connor. “He is a very bright young man and is a tremendous basketball talent. Having played for one of the best high school programs in the country, Alex has proven himself against top-level competition. We are excited for Alex to get better over the course of his career at Westminster.”
The Griffins are coming off a 30-5 season and the first-ever tri to the NAIA National Championships quarterfinals. They won both the regular season and Frontier Conference Tournament championships for the first time in the same season.
