Griffins Sign Salt Lake Community College Forward

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's basketball team has announced the signing of Ben Walker, a 6-8 forward from Salt Lake Community College. Walker spent one year at the Air Force Academy prior to serving a two-year church mission in the Philippines. He transferred to Salt Lake Community College upon returning home and helped the Bruins win their first ever national championship. Walker prepped at Lehi High School where he was named First Team All-State as a senior.

Walker is a very skilled and athletic forward who will fit in nicely with the Griffins in the wake of graduating NAIA National Player of the Year Geoff Payne. Walker shot 63.2% from the floor in conference play while grabbing 2.5 rebounds per contest in about 10 minutes per game. As his minutes increased, so did his production. During a two week period in the month of February, Walker scored over 15 points and grabbed at least 7 rebounds three times.

“We are excited to have Ben join our program,” head coach Tommy Connor said. “Ben is a high character individual and a high-end student. He is a tremendous talent that should have two great years here at Westminster.”

Walker chose Westminster over the likes of Ivy League powers University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, and Division-I newcomer New Jersey Institute of Technology. Westminster is coming off a 30-5 season highlighted by another Frontier Conference Championship and an appearance in the NAIA Quarterfinals.
