No. 10 Griffins win 68-47 at No. 21 MSU-Northern

HAVRE, Montana – The Westminster men’s basketball team improved to 1-3 against a ranked opponent with a 68-47 win at No. 21 Montana State-Northern on Saturday night in Frontier Conference action. With the win, No. 10 Westminster (18-5, 8-1) opens up a two game lead over Northern in the conference standings.

The Griffins took control of the game behind a 12-2 run midway through the first half, turning a 9-9 tied into a 21-11 advantage. Northern got back within eight with 15:11 to play in the second half, but the Griffins used a mini 8-0 run over the next three minutes to regain momentum and cruise to the victory.

Westminster finished with 19 assists on 27 field goals as they shot 47.4% from the field in a tough road environment. Although they were just 4-of-14 from beyond the arc, the Griffins collected 12 offensive rebounds and had 42 points in the paint. On the defensive end, Northern was shot just 32.1% from the field and committed 20 turnovers which resulted in 20 points for the Griffins.

Michael Stockton had a breakout game off the Griffins bench. He finished with a career high 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting while grabbing three rebounds. Weston Anderson posted 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Blair Prowse scored nine points and Tanner Gregory added eight.

The Griffins return to action on Thursday, February 11 when they host Montana Western at 7:30 p.m. in the Behnken Field House.
