Westminster Signs Three to Cross Country and Track Teams

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's cross country and track teams have added three recruits for the 2010-11 season. Ian Asay, Oliver Lange, and Jef Marsicola will all join the Griffins beginning in the fall semester of 2010 head coach Craig Binkley announced this afternoon.

Asay will walk-on at Westminster after prepping at West High School in Salt Lake City. Asay finished ninth in the Region 1 meet during his senior season.

Lange will come to Westminster from Foothill High School in Pleasanton, California. His personal best cross country time is 15:56 while he also ran a personal best of 2:05 in the 800m during the track season. Lange was named East Bay Athletic All-League for cross country and was a Foothill Scholar Athlete.

Marsicola joins the Griffins from Gilbert, Arizona where he prepped at Highland High School. Marsicola received 10 varsity athletic awards while at Highland.

“All three of these guys are quality athletes,” coach Binkley stated. “The type of attitude and work ethic they have is exactly what we were looking for. It will be very interesting to see how they develop over the course of their careers. These individuals will play a big role in our program I'm excited to have them on board for next year”

Westminster placed fifth at the 2009 Frontier Conference Cross Country Championships. The 2010 season will mark the second year for head coach Binkley. He will also head up the track program at Westminster that begins during the 2010-11 season.
