GREENVILLE, Tenn. – The Westminster College women's golf team is in 20th place after the opening round of the 2012 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships. The event is being held at Link Hills Country Club which is a 6,044-yard par 73.
The Griffins shot 321 in the opening round and are 23 shots behind tournament leader Shorter College. Westminster began its round on hole No. 10 during the afternoon session. They were in the ninth position after the opening nine holes, but shot 18-over on the front nine and had to count 11-over.
Jenteal Jackson posted the top score of the day for the Griffins with a 78. She went 3-over on the back nine before shooting a 2-over 39 on the front nine. Jackson currently sits in a tie for 49th place on the individual leaderboard.
Brandi Bork finished with a 6-over 79 while
Mari Hutsi went 8-over during the round with an 81. The final scored counted was the 10-over 83 posted by
Mikayla Williamson with
Candace Dechant shooting 85 in the opening round.
Westminster will begin the second round bright and early on Wednesday. The Griffins tee off from hole No. 1 at 6 a.m. MDT with Oklahoma Christian and Southwestern (Kan.).
