For the second consecutive season the Westminster women’s soccer team opened the season with a loss at Utah Valley. This time is was a 3-0 decision for the host Wolverines that dropped the Griffins to 0-1 on the season and 1-3 all-time in season openers.

The 2010 Westminster women’s soccer team begins the season with two games on the road against NCAA DI teams this week. The slate begins on Friday, August 13 at 6 p.m. against in-state foe Utah Valley in Orem. The Griffins then travel to Pocatello, Idaho for a noon contest against Idaho State on Monday, August 16.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the Scholar team awards for the 2009-10 season on Tuesday and all nine of Westminster’s NAIA teams made the list. The nine teams making the list are the most in school history.

The Westminster women’s soccer team unveiled the schedule for the 2010 campaign on Monday. Head coach Tony LeBlanc has put together one of the toughest schedules in the four years of the program, starting with two road games against NCAA Division I opponents. The schedule features seven home games and a trip to Florida.

The Westminster women’s soccer team has signed three student-athletes from the state of Utah to a Frontier Conference letter of intent head coach Tony LeBlanc announced this afternoon. Jessica Harris, Claire Huntsberger, and Sadie Young all signed to join the Griffins for the 2010 season bringing the total of new recruits for next season to eight.

The Westminster Athletics Department put together another successful season in 2009-10. The 15 teams in the department combined for five conference championships and seven appearances in national tournaments.

In last week's women's soccer poll, the Griffins 1-0 victory over No. 23 Emrby-Riddle (AZ) took home the most votes.  That game received 40% of the votes followed by a 1-0 win over Rocky Mountain with 30% of the votes.

Westminster began its 2010 Spring Season last weekend with a visit to the BYU Invitational Indoor Tournament. The Griffins came away with one tie and one loss against two NCAA Division I teams. Westminster tied 0-0 with Utah State and narrowly lost to BYU 1-0.
