STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – Both Westminster alpine skiing teams qualified for the 2009 National Championships behind their strong showing at the Regional Championships. The men's team placed second overall thanks to putting four racers in the top-10. The women won the event and went 1-2-3-4 on the individual side.
The men's team was paced by a first place finish from Lorentz Gedde-Dahl. He put together a combined time of 1:29.53, nearly two second better that the next best racer. Ryan Donovan placed third with a combined time of 1:31.47. Gabriel Lepine placed sixth while teammates Zach Collins, ninth, and Sage Dynham, 20th, completed the field for the Griffins. Westminster finished second overall as a team behind Rocky Mountain College and earned a trip to the national championships in the first year of the program.
The women's event was dominated by Westminster. The Griffins went first, second, third, fourth, and 10th led by Kendall Brown and her combined time of 1:35.21. This is the second consecutive day Brown has won the women's event. Perrine Voisin Chappaz took second with a time of 1:35.82. Ulrikke Nicolaisen was third at 1:36.39 while Wiktoria Glowczynski took fourth at 1:37.59. Melissa Gill posted a time of 1:39.02 for 10th overall. Westminster won the team event and earned a trip to the national championships in the first year of the program.
The USCSA Nationals take place on March 2-7 in Winter Park, Colorado.
