SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's and women's alpine ski teams will compete at the USCSA Western Regional Championships this weekend at Snowbasin Resort in Huntsville, Utah. Friday, February 19 is the men's and women's slalom event. The men's giant slalom is on Saturday, February 20 with the women's giant slalom on Sunday, February 21.
The Westminster men's team enters this weekend event ranked No. 1 in the country in the poll on collegesnowsports.com. Westminster started the year at No. 2 and jumped to the top spot after claiming wins in the two Grand Teton Conference events.
The women's team heads to the region championship as the No. 1 team in the collegesnowsports.com top 10 poll. The Griffins have stayed on top of the poll all season thanks to sweeping the two Grand Teton Conference events.
The Western Regional Championships will feature up to 20 teams from the Northwest, Grand Teton, and Rocky Mountain Ski Conferences. The top-five teams in the alpine combined standings will earn an automatic invite to the USCA National Championships in Sunday River, Maine during the first week of March.
This week's venue is Snowbasin Resort. Snowbasin was home to the 2002 Winter Olympics and is located just 33 miles outside of Salt Lake City. There is currently a 74-inch base at the bottom of the resort with zero inches of new snow in the past 48 hours.
