Box Score SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The top-ranked Westminster women's lacrosse team had its quest for a national championship come to an end with a 20-9 loss to No. 4 seed Towson on Friday at the 2011 WCLA Division II National Championships. The Griffins suffer defeat to a DII team for the first time in 16 games this season with the loss.
Westminster will now face in-state rival Utah in the third-place game on Saturday morning. The Griffins will take a 17-6 overall record into the game and are 3-0 against the Utes this season.
Towson jumped out to an early 6-1 advantage just 10 minutes into today's semi-final contest. Westminster would get within 10-4 late in the first half and eventually trailed 11-5 at intermission. Midway through the final 30 minutes it was a 14-7 advantage for Towson, but Westminster would not get closer.
Chelsea Farrell led the Griffins with five goals. Beth Ann Jancuska led Towson with five goals and an assist.
