Westminster to Host Frontier Conference Playoffs

SALT LAKE CITY – For the second consecutive year the Behnken Field House will be home to Frontier Conference Tournament action. The 2010 tournament will once again be played on the campus site of the higher seeded team and be reseeded following each round.

The Westminster men's basketball team has clinched the regular season Frontier Conference championship and earned the right to play all of their tournament games at home. The Griffins are ranked fourth nationally in the latest NAIA coaches' poll and will open the tournament on Tuesday, March 2 against the University of Great Falls.

The semi-final game will be played on Friday, March 5 with the championship game taking place on Monday, March 8. All single games are scheduled for a 7 p.m. and double header games will begin at 8 p.m.

The women's side isn't as clear cut heading into this final weekend of the regular season. Westminster currently sits atop the conference standings and has clinched at least a share of the Frontier Conference championship. A win this Saturday, February 27 over No. 12 Lewis-Clark State College gives the NAIA 11th-ranked Griffins an outright title and the No. 1 seed throughout the tournament. That would mean Westminster would open the tournament on Tuesday, March 2 against the University of Great Falls as part of a double header with the men's team.

Should Lewis Clark State College win Saturday's game, Westminster will be the No. 2 seed and open the tournament at home on Wednesday, March 3 against the University of Montana Western. The semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday, March 6 and the championship game is on Tuesday, March 9. All single games begin at 7 p.m. with double header games beginning at 6 p.m.

If teams from the same school are traveling to the same site, they will be scheduled as double headers on the men's date in the first two rounds of the tournament. If that situation arises for the championship game, the games will be played on Tuesday, March 9.

Admission to the first two rounds of the tournament is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. The price of admission for the championship games is $8 for adults and $6 for seniors and children. Seating in Behnken Field House is general seating and tickets can be purchased night of the event at the west door entrance of field house.
