SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's basketball team signed Dana Bates to a Frontier Conference letter of intent head coach JD Gustin announced today. Bates is the second recruit to sign with the Griffins for the 2010-11 season.
Bates will come to Westminster from Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake, Washington. The 5-9 guard averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds per game during her sophomore season at Big Bend. She was named First Team All-Eastern Region in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges. She scored 20-plus points nine times during the season and posted 15 double-doubles.
"Dana is a long, tough, physical guard that can really rebound,” coach Gustin said. “She can score from and defend multiple positions which are important for our style of play. She is also a quality student and has a reputation for being an exceptional teammate. We think she is a great fit for our program."
Westminster is coming off a 27-7 season that saw them claim a second consecutive Frontier Conference regular season championship. They advanced to the second round of the NAIA National Championships for the third time in four seasons and had five Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes.
