Griffins Earn At-Large Invite to MCLA National Championships

SALT LAKE CITY – After making a fourth consecutive appearance in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference championship game, the Westminster men's lacrosse team earned an at-large berth into the MCLA National Championship Tournament. The Griffins earned a No. 10 seed and will face seventh-seeded Elon in the opening round of the 16-team tournament. Westminster will open its fourth tournament appearance in four seasons on Tuesday, May 11 at 1 p.m. on the outer fields at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Denver, Colorado.

Westminster enters the tournament with an 11-7 overall record. They advanced to a fourth straight RMLC championship game where they lost to Utah Valley 18-10. The Griffins won the 2008 national championship and are 3-0 all-time in opening round games at the MCLA National Championship. Last season, Westminster defeated Missouri State 8-7 in the opening round before dropping a 16-5 decision against eventual national champion St. Tomas.

This will be the first all-time meeting with Elon for the Griffins. Elon will enter the contest at 10-2 on the season and riding a 10-game winning streak. They made the field of 16 by winning the SELC Tournament, defeating Kennesaw State 12-10 in the championship game.

The winner of this opening round match-up will face the winner of the Dayton versus Missouri State game in the quarterfinals. That game would be played n Wednesday, May 12 at 4 p.m.
