KANSAS CITY, Mo. –
Sarah Swenson from the Westminster College women's soccer team was named a NAIA honorable Mention All-American, the national office announced. The NAIA announced three All-American teams along with a list of honorable mentions.
Swenson was named an honorable mention and becomes the second player in school history to receive the honor. She was tied for second on the team this season with 14 points with five goals and four assists. The 5-foot-6 senior forward from Salt Lake City, attempted 38 shots during the season and out 22 on goal. She played 1,797 minutes and started all 21 games the team played.
Swenson joins
Heather Hillam as the only two players in school history to be named to the All-American list by the NAIA. Hillam received her honor following the 2010 season. Swenson was named first team All-Frontier Conference last month for the second consecutive season.
Westminster finished the year 12-7-2 overall and advanced to the NAIA National Championships for the first time in school history. They were co-champions of the Frontier Conference and won the Frontier/Cal Pac Conference Tournament.
Jamie Achten of Lee (Tenn.) was named Player of the Year for the second-consecutive season. The senior forward capped off her career by helping the Lady Flames become the first program to ever win four-straight national championships as they defeated Concordia (Ore.), 3-0, on Dec. 3. During her four years playing in the event, Achten has set a trio of individual championship records and been a part of two team records. She finished the season ranked among the nation's top 30 in eight offensive statistical categories, including first in total assists (26) and assists per game (1.04). Achten was third in total points (70), seventh in points per game (2.80) and 10th in total goals (22).
Achten is the second player to earn the distinction in back-to-back seasons, matching Westmont's (Calif.) Kristi Sullivan (2002, 03). She also becomes the first four-time All-American in Lee women's soccer history, as she was a First-Team pick in 2008, 2010 and 2011, along with a Second-Team honor in 2009.
Also headlining the All-America selections are three-time honorees Ida Gregersen and Mia Persson of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Concordia's (Ore.) Brittany Orr. Eight other players earned their second All-America nod, while 27 others tallied their first All-America status.
