LEWISTON, Idaho – The Westminster College women's golf team finished first while the men's team tied for first at the final regular season event of the Frontier Conference season. The tournament was hosted by Lewis-Clark State College and was played at the Lewiston Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
The win by the men is believed to be the first Frontier Conference event won by the Griffins. They tied for the title with Rocky Mountain College as both teams shot 899 over the three days. Westminster shot 305-290-304 over the two days while Rocky went 294-305-300.
Dane Jensen took top individual honors after shooting 215 in the tournament. After shooting matching 70's in the two rounds on Monday, Jensen posted a final round 75 to win the event.
Matt Bushman and
Robert McKee each finished at 228.
Tanner Kopan shot 230 with
Collin Wilkinson posting a 240.
Brian Panter finished with a score of 226 playing as an individual.
The 17th-ranked women completed the season sweep of Frontier events with this win. They finished at 938 for the event to clinch a second straight regular season title. They posted scores of 312, 315 and 311 during the three rounds to finish 15 strokes ahead of No. 20 Lewis-Clark State who finished second at 953.
Jenteal Jackson was the top individual in the field with a score of 221. That score moved her atop the season standings to give her a second straight regular season individualist title. Jackson posted a final round 70 after going 75-76 during Monday's two rounds.
Brandi Bork shot 232 with
Candace Dechant finishing at 241.
Mikayla Williamson finished at 247 and
Lauren Okutsu went 259 during the tournament.
Mari Hutsi posted a score of 243 as an individual.
Up next is the Frontier Conference Championship on April 23-24 in Missoula, Mont. The event will feature a seeded bracket and team vs. team play. The champion from both the men's and women's tournament will receive an automatic bids to the national tournaments.
