SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's soccer team finally knows their postseason schedule. Westminster earned the No. 2 seed for the Unaffiliated Conference Tournament featuring teams from the Frontier, Dakota Athletic, and Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conferences. The Griffins (10-6-2) will face No. 3 seed, and Frontier Conference rival, Great Falls in the opening round. The game is scheduled for Friday, November 13, at 2:30 p.m.
The winner of this game will face the Bellevue/Jamestown winner on Saturday, November 14, at 4:00 p.m. All games of the tournament will be played at Tranquility Park in Omaha, Nebraska.
Westminster and Great Falls split two meeting this season with each team winning on its home field. In the past two years the teams have played four times and have gone 2-2 in those meetings. The last meeting was a 2-0 win by Great Falls on October 11. This is the 21st postseason appearance in 26 seasons of men's soccer for Westminster.
The winner of this tournament earns an automatic berth in the 2009 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championships. The opening round of the national tournament is played on campus sites on November 21. The round of 16 begins on November 30, and is being hosted by Fresno Pacific University.
